Bri-Stor Team ALL Complete the 3 Peak Challenge

07 September 2016

3 peaks new

Saturday 3rd September saw a team of 19 Bri-Stor group employees head north to tackle Yorkshire’s 3 Peak challenge.

The challenge was set; Yorkshires three highest peaks, Ingleborough, Pen-y-ghent and Whernside; combined climb over 5000ft, total distance of 24miles all within 12 hours.

Weather reports of afternoon rain encouraged the group into an early start on the Saturday morning. The first peak on the route was Ingleborough and this was successfully completed in relatively sound conditions. As the team dropped down into the town of Horton and then started the ascent of Pen-y-ghent, the weather had turned and was proving challenging as the wind and rain made conditions difficult on the steep climb. The rain would be present for the remainder of the hike and as the descent of Pen-y-ghent was followed by an 8 mile walk to the bottom of Whernside, the team were experiencing a difficult 3 hours to the next ascent. Whernside was the final peak and was the most difficult for weather conditions, a long gradual hike with severe rain and side winds which almost convinced walk organisers to close the final peak.

The team, with ages ranging from 19-59 and experience levels of beginners through to seasoned hikers all managed to complete the challenge within 12hours. Completing the challenge represents a great achievement for all those involved and collectively the team managed to raise somewhere in the region of £2000 for Help for Heroes Bri-Stor 2016 group total.
