The Wheels Keep on Turning

09 June 2016

Last night was a great success at The Stone Festival Soap Box Derby. Up to 30 teams took part in racing down the High Street in a time trial challenge. Only their equally home-made brakes stood between them and 100’s of spectators.

Bri-Stor Systems were certainly 'charged up' after the final push was given 20 metres from the start. Halfway down the track we were challenged with a jump and a chicane and we succeeded through this with ease as we headed for the end of the track and over the finish line.

Presenter Joseph Abbots who rode in the soapbox said “The soapbox drove really well down the High Street. There was added pressure before the race with the big crowd, however, I’m just glad I made it down in one piece!”

Overall, this was a well organised event which was fun and further brought the Apprentices at Bri-Stor together as a team. As a Company raising money for our chosen Charity, Help for Heroes, we smashed our target of £300.00 and raised in total £517.00. We would personally like to thanks the following Companies for their Sponsorship:
- Auto Glym
- Ortek Printers
- The JCB Academy
- Proactive Personnel

Bri Stor Soap Box Teams go Head to Head for Help for Heroes

31 May 2016

As part of the Bri-Stor Groups’ 2016 fundraising efforts for Help for Heroes, two teams will be competing in the Stone Festival Soap Box Derby on 8th June 2016.

Representing Alpha manufacturing will be the “Alpha Males” comprising of Matt Wright, Kyle Brian, Will Murphy and Lewis Grant. While the “Bri-Stor Bullets” team consisting of Josh, Dexter, Harry, Joe, Ben & Jack will be racing for Bri-Stor Systems.

The Soap Box Derby, which is part of the 2016 Stone Festival, takes place on Wednesday 8th June from 7pm and it looks like it’s going to be a fantastic night in the town centre.

Forty soap boxes will be hurtling down the High Street, going down a ramp to start, over a jump and through a chicane in a thrill-a-minute timed challenge.

There are four categories:

· Male
· Female
· Junior (for under-18s)
· 150+ (a mixed team whose combined ages must be over 150!)

As well as raising awareness and hopefully plenty of donations for Help for Heroes, the Soapbox derby is a great opportunity for the two young Bri-Stor Group teams to showcase their engineering skills. Both teams have designed and built their respective cars and bragging rights within the group will be on the line!

We’d love to see you at the start line, Stone High-street 8th June, 7pm.

Or you can show your support by donating through the Bri-Stor Group just giving page, all donations gratefully received.

A new and exciting initiative aimed at welcoming and opening our business to tomorrow’s workforce saw Bri-Stor say hello at an open evening for our new apprentices and their parents. Apprenticeships are the story of the moment with the Government and local partnerships actively encouraging firms and local schools and colleges to recognise the tremendous advantages of well-structured training schemes.

Bri-Stor Systems Ltd are very proud to be involved with the KMF Young Engineer of the Year 2015

09 February 2015

Following the success of 2014, where the students were to design and build an electric-powered race car from a kit, KMF have now launched the young engineers of 2015 the task to design a build a ‘gadget’ using a 3D printer.

This year Bri-Stor are sponsoring Alleyne’s Academy in Stone, Staffordshire.

This is the second year that Bri-Stor have been in involved with the competition. Last year's project was extremely hands on and mechanically focused, which relied on a lot of input from the sponsors, this year it is more design of the product, sales and marketing research focused. Sponsoring local schools annually has allowed Bri-Stor to enhance and encourage engineering knowledge within the schools and promote to the future engineers the opportunity of an apprenticeship scheme.

Since the purchase of the 3D printer, we have found that it is also helping with the students GCSE design coursework.

KMF Young Engineer of the Year 2014

01 February 2014

The KMF Young Engineer of the Year competition is a wonderful opportunity for young, aspirant engineers to gain some valuable knowledge and open doors to potential career opportunities. To achieve this competition, KMF had teamed up with the Greenpower project, an organisation that aims to change current views about engineering, presenting it as a fascinating, relevant and a dynamic career choice for any young person.

The competition pairs organisations, such as Bri-Stor Systems, with high schools located within the Stoke-On-Trent area. The aim of this year's competition (2014) was to design and construct a kit car with the essential components provided by the Greenpower project. Once the base components are established, the candidates are then tasked with designing their own unique kit car to bring to the race track.

Bri-Stor Systems had paired up with a selected group of young candidates from Madely High School. After a few weeks of introductory meetings and design plans, it was straight off to the workshop to put their plans into practice. Soon after, it was time for the races to begin with a guest appearance from Jason Bradbury, offering his support and enthusiasm for the next generation of engineers!

The race day consisted of 2x90 minute races in which the aspiring young candidates had their finished car taken to the track. After some minor hardships in the first race, Madeley High School managed to grasp 3rd place in the second race. A gratifying victory for all the hard work and commitment the candidates had shown throughout.

After completion of the races, the KMF board of judges were tasked with the awarding of young engineer of the year. The following quotation from Bri-Stor Systems representative, Mikolaj Jaszczolt, helps to summarise the event:

"It was really rewarding to be able to share Bri-Stor Systems experience and expertise with the next generation of engineers"

This working time will be combined with day release for study at college. Each of the 8 apprentices have been allocated a mentor within the Bri-Stor businesses to offer them support in their new apprenticeships.

The talented 8, who responded to advertisements, poster and social media campaigns promoting the vacancies in Hixon and the surrounding towns, were short-listed after submitting applications, completing tests and attending interviews.

Jason Till, Bri-Stor Manager & Apprentice Mentor commented of the scheme, “Building an Apprenticeship programme that delivers to its maximum potential is highly relevant to increasing the chances of meeting our groups future challenges successfully.
